Commissioning a Painting

Are you looking for a unique and lasting gift? A commissioned portrait is exactly that.

More than just capturing the likeness of a person, a painting can capture strong emotions and happy memories. I’ve been painting commissioned portraits for 3 years now and I’ve been astonished at how much emotion a personalised piece can bring up with the receiver. If you’re ready for the experience, let’s get to work!

How to Begin the Commission Process

Step 1: Get in touch with me and tell me about what you have in mind. We will discuss who the subject will be, what size painting you would like, and what style (more traditional or something more in a 90s colour palette vibe). I will give you some tips on selecting a good reference photo that I can use to paint from. We will agree on price and you will pay a 30-50% advance.

Step 2: I will start working on the painting. It usually takes me 2-3 weeks to finish a piece. If you need the painting for a specific date, please mention this in our initial discussion.

Step 3: I will send you photos of the finished piece. You will be able to request some minor changes related to likeness or other minor changes.

Step 4: We will arrange for a way to get the painting to you. Depending on where you live, this could be an exchange in person, or I could ship the painting. Please note that when I use a traditional oil painting technique, the top layers contain a lot of oil and will need at least 4 weeks to be dry to the touch and be ready for shipping.
